EPC or Engineering, Procurement and Construction contracts – also known as “Turnkey” contracts because of the fact that the client has little to do apart from “turning the key” at the end of commissioning – are a common form of arrangement in Oil & Gas projects internationally. EPCM (Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management) Contracts differ from EPC contracts in a critical strategic manner, in that ECPM contracts introduce a third party – the Construction Manager – who enters into an agreement with the client (EPCM Contract) to design, procure and then manage the construction of the project. Critically, this involves using different contract forms with individual contractors to do the actual work.
